The American religious right has been known to let their ideology get in the way of common sense. They can get a little carried away on abortion and homosexuality. And it's probably not the most level-headed of leaders who blame deadly natural disasters on sin.
But this latest example is not only disturbing. It's dangerous.
Christian political activists have been urging Congress to cut funding to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, The Boston Globe reports. They claim to be angry that the Fund utilizes tactics like buying clean needles for drug addicts and distributing free condoms.
Essentially, these groups are arguing for the sacrifice of hundreds of thousands of human beings because they have a distaste for the methods that are necessary to save them.
Thankfully they no longer have such sympathetic ears in Congress.
